Captain's Corner
Responsibilities
  • Enforce League Policies: Ensure that all team members are informed about and adhere to League rules and policies.

  • Foster Team Spirit: Cultivate a strong sense of community and camaraderie within your team.

  • Promote Social Engagement: Work with your Social Chair to encourage interaction and social activities with other teams and players in the League.

  • Provide Game Support: Assign the required number of players as base referees for games, as scheduled.

  • Communicate Effectively: Provide ongoing feedback to your conference lead or Kickball Leadership Team and promptly address any issues that arise.

  • Champion Inclusion: Encourage and support all teammates, promoting an inclusive and unified team environment.

  • Disseminate Information: Ensure that your team is informed about all Stonewall Sports games, activities, and events.

  • Lead by Example: Uphold and advocate for the Stonewall Kickball Diversity and Inclusion statement through your actions.

  • Develop Skills: Encourage your team members to improve their kickball skills and participate in training or practice sessions.

  • Safety First: Monitor the safety and well-being of your players, ensuring that everyone follows proper health and safety guidelines.

  • Conflict Resolution: Act as the first point of contact for resolving any disputes or conflicts within the team or with other teams.

  • Celebrate Successes: Recognize and celebrate team achievements and individual contributions to boost morale.

  • Sustain Engagement: Maintain ongoing communication with your team during the off-season to keep the team engaged and prepared for the next season.

Check List
Pre-Season
  • Registration: Coordinate your team's registration process, especially with new league players and free agents.

  • Assign Roles: Assign a Co-Captain, Social Chair, Team Umpire, and (optionally) a Philanthropy Chair.

  • Attend:​ Attend or delegate someone to attend the captain's meeting.

  • Practice: Coordinate a practice(s) for your team to learn the rules and roles of kickball.​

  • Distribute Gear: Pick up and distribute season shirts.

  • Promote Pre-Season Activities: Encourage your team to participate in pre-season umpire clinics, fundamentals clinics, league events, and social mixers.

Season
  • Game Preparation: For each game, write out a kicking order, assign fielding positions, and ensure base referees are provided for your assigned games.

  • Engage in League Philanthropy: Work with your Philanthropy Chair to organize a team fundraiser to support the league’s charity initiatives.​

  • Nominate All-Stars: Provide the names of two team players to the Kickball Leadership for the All-Stars game.

  • Promote Team Spirit and Inclusion: Foster a positive team environment, promoting participation in league social events and maintaining an inclusive atmosphere.

  • Maintain Communication: Keep the team informed about upcoming games, league events, and any schedule changes.

  • Support Team During Playoffs: Guide your team through the playoff process, explaining the tournament structure and ensuring base referees are provided when assigned.​

Post-Season
  • Celebrate: Plan a post-season celebration to recognize the team’s achievements and contributions and attend the closing party for some extra fun!

  • Collect Feedback: Gather feedback from your team about their experience and any suggestions for improvement to share with the Kickball Leadership Team.

  • ​Develop Future Leaders: Mentor and prepare team members who may be interested in taking on captain or leadership roles in future seasons.
